Real Wedding: Sarah + David
We have recently passed the one year mark since Sarah and David's beautiful fall wedding and couldn't believe it's taken this long for us to share it with you! Sarah and David had the most beautiful October wedding at the same church that her sister's had previously married in and had her reception in the yard at her family's home. We have had the pleasure of working with the bride's family for the older two sisters' weddings and were so excited when we got the call that Sarah was engaged! Sarah and her older sisters, Jessica and Elisabeth (click on their names to see their beautiful weddings) also had their receptions at their family home AND shared the same dress. When Jessica chose her dress, the other sisters loved it so much, they decided to make small changes to the dress to match each of their personal styles. They are the sweetest sisters and we are so thankful to have been a part of their special days!
Sarah's reception space was designed a little differently than the two others. Instead of one large tent, we opted for two parallel tents with a gorgeous courtyard in the middle with the stage, dance floor and soft seating area, complete with string lights floating over-head. Scroll through their gorgeous photos and our interview with Sarah below!
SP: How would you describe your season of engagement?
Sarah: Intentional. Living in Birmingham, I spend many nights during engagement driving back and forth to Montgomery for planning meetings. I wanted to spend every minute intentionally. It is easy to get caught up in the wedding details, and not focus on the soon-to-be marriage, so I wanted to dedicate time to investing in our relationship as well. 10 months seemed like a long time, but it FLEW by.
SP: What was the most important aspect of planning to you? Any vendor/s you knew you had to have?
Sarah: Photographer! I knew having it at my home, with Southern Posies handling the design, it was going to be beautiful- so I wanted to have permanent memories that would be timeless. Davy Whitener was an easy choice. Davy was the only photographer I reached out to because I had admired his work for years!
SP: What was your favorite memory from your wedding day?
Sarah: Holding my dads arm as he walked his third and final daughter down the aisle... and the seeing my groom at the end of the aisle, with tears in his eyes. It felt like a fairytale!
SP: What has been your favorite thing about married life?
Sarah: Living with my best friend! We have been married for a year and there are still days we are like “This is the most fun thing ever! How is this real!?” You learn so many things about your spouse in the first year, so it’s so special to look back on how much we have grown.
SP: What piece of advice would you give to a newly engaged couple?
Sarah: Be grateful. What matters is your marriage, so your wedding is just an added blessing! So do not get caught up in the small stuff, but keep the big picture in mind.
Sarah worked at Southern Living creating recipes for the magazine so as a late night bite, she made these little pecan cookies for her guests to enjoy. She also spent the week of the wedding making fresh cookies for her hotel welcome boxes and for the vendors working on site at her home -- talk about southern hospitality!
