We are so excited to introduce to you our newest Blooming Biz Babe! This is Eleanor Scola and she is our fabulous rep at one of our fav specialty linen companies, Nuage Designs. Check out our interview with her to learn more about what she does and why we adore her so much!

SP: Tell us a little about yourself and what you do!

ES: Hello! My name is Eleanor Scola and I’ve been working for Nuage Designs, Inc since 2012. I made the switch to ‘rentals’ after three years experience as an event design coordinator for a full service design & planning company in Atlanta, GA.

SP: How did you get started in this field of work? Tell us what inspired you to pursue this career.

ES: I studied Fine Art (specifically, Jewelry & Metalsmithing) at The University of Georgia, so I knew I wanted to go into a creative field following graduation. Because I also have a knack for organization & details, a family member suggested I consider event design and planning and introduced me to the owner of a full service design & planning firm. I was hooked! After three years I took a brief adventure to live in the mountains of Colorado, but ultimately missed the events industry & my hometown of Atlanta. Shortly after moving back, I was connected to the owner of Nuage Designs who was looking to expand into the Southeast, and I instantly knew it was a perfect fit. The combination of Nuage’s beautiful designs and the ability to work with clients all over the country was just what I wanted.

SP: Where are ya located and what regions do you primarily serve?

ES: While Nuage is headquartered in Miami, I operate a satellite office in Atlanta, Georgia and assist clients in 15 states throughout the Southeast and Midwest regions.

SP: What products or services do you offer your clients?

ES: Nuage Designs is a luxury linen & furniture rental company, offering a range of soft goods including linens, napkins, pillows, and chair covers. In select markets, we also carry distinctive dining & lounge furniture, and our South Florida clients have unique access to an assortment of tabletop decor including chargers and glassware (arriving soon!)

SP: What is your favorite part of your job?

ES: My favorite part of this job is getting to see the creative ways our clients bring our products to life at events. In the individual context of each design, our linens take on a new identity and I never tire of seeing the countless ways they are put to use!

SP: What are some big takeaways you have learned being on your side of the events industry?

ES: Plan early but be flexible! Getting an early start on building your design elements will help ensure you can select the items you want (ie, they’re not sold out yet!). In many cases, we can also work with you to create something custom if that’s your desire! But keeping an open mind is equally important: you may find a new, better option along the way, or when the ‘worst case scenario’ happens and your rentals end up in Columbus, OH instead of Columbia, SC – trust that your vendor will work hard to find the best possible solution and take great care of you!

SP: What are some big trends you are seeing in your industry currently? What should we be looking out for?

ES: We are already seeing a resurgence in velvet fabrics, which will be sticking around for a while. We’ll also see a rise in pastel & muted tones, including antique rose, mauve, and more taupe-hued creams. Lastly, you can expect the rental market to offer even more specialty pieces like printed napkins and interesting runners so that clients have even more opportunity to customize their event on the micro-scale: we all know, details are key!

SP: Any advice you can share with brides and grooms planning their big day and looking to utilize your company’s services?

ES: Hire a planner and trust their expertise when sorting out your rental budget. Assuming you don’t have a limited budget (and who does??), focus on spending your hard earned money where it will make the most impact: highly visible spaces that will be heavily photographed, like your sweetheart table, your cake table, and the escort card table where every guest will be making a stop. It’s important to have several key statement pieces to drive home your style, but there’s no need to go overboard!

SP: Where would we find you outside of work?

ES: Nights and weekends are spent getting in a solid workout at the gym or taking my American Bulldog, Niva, for hikes! While I love to hole up with a big bowl of my husband’s homemade pasta in the winter, you’ll find us grabbing dinner at local hotspts and cheering on the Braves all spring & summer long.

SP: Any fun facts about you?

ES: In addition to my Art degree, I also have a degree in French! Although I studied the language for 10 years, I’ve gotten rusty since graduating college in 2008… though my ability seems to improve after a glass of wine or two!

SP: Of course we have to ask, what is your favorite flower?

ES: My favorite flower is absolutely ranunculus (any & all colors!) followed closely by tulips, especially in the springtime.
